Beef Sticks for Backpacks (BSFB) is a non-profit organization who's mission is to produce and donate beef sticks to children facing food insecurity in Colorado. Since 2019, BSFB has provided over one million beef sticks to children in need. Each of our one-ounce beef sticks contain 8 grams of protein and are produced by students at Colorado State University in their USDA facility. Each week beef sticks are picked up and distributed to backpack programs such as Food Bank of the Rockies, Totes for Hope. Our partners get enough beef sticks for every food bag at no cost, reducing the burden of food sourcing while ensuring the distribution of beef sticks to children across Colorado. Currently, BSFB is producing 20,000 per week and aims to increase capacity to 30,000 sticks per week to provide beef sticks to every food bag program throughout Colorado.

Proper nutrition is vital to a child's physical, mental and emotional development. Unfortunately, 1 in 7 kids in Colorado is unsure where to get their next meal. When a child shows up to school hungry, they cannot focus and learn. Backpack programs aim to eliminate childhood weekend hunger by assembling 5-7 shelf-stable meals and other snacks into bags which are handed out each Friday to children identified by an educator as struggling with hunger. Each of our one-ounce beef sticks contains 8 grams of protein and offers a nutritious and filling weekend snack for the kids.
